DETERMINING STRENGTHS OF PLANETS

The planets gain more strength when they are in the mid-degree area of the house. This would be called the midpoint.

Naturally as a planet becomes weak in debilitation, it becomes stronger in its main house or moolatrikona sign. It of course becomes greater when it occupies its exaltation state and these houses are always found at the opposite sign of where the planet is debilitated seven houses away.

A benefic planet bestows additional strength to other planets, benefic or malefic in a persons natal chart or when the transiting benefic planet aspects or transits over the natal planet. The benefic planet only bestows good energy that can reinforce that planet if it is weak at all and brings about less malefic energy and negativity to a natural malefic planet. The benefic planet produces the same ability when it sits in or aspects a Dusthana house (six, eight or twelve) and is close to the midpoint of the ascendant. The benefic planet may lose strength when it surrounds itself around the malefic planets or in the malefic house, yet it still brings benefic energy to the malefic planets or houses thus reducing the negative impact. It becomes counter effective.

As explained, the depositorship determines whether a benefic planet can actually fulfill its potential and therefore by having a benefic planet sitting in a moolatrikona sign that is not weak, there can only be good results. For example, if the planet Jupiter sits in the fifth house in the sign of Libra, and the depositor Venus is exalted in the sign Pisces, then Jupiter will live up to its full potential.

The planets in exalted signs can produce great results providing that the planets are not weak in other categories such as in navamsa chart and malefic houses, etc. The exaltation state for a planet would be explained as being at one's summer resort. A planet's moolatrikona sign would be considered one's main home and it is enjoyed and lived in comfortably, yet in the summer the person is on an extended vacation and is excited and exalted at the idea of staying in his summer resort in the country, or at the oceanside. This simple analogy explains the exalted state of a planet that can bring great results.

YOKAKARAKA PLANETS
These are planets that own signs that are posited in both a Kendra and a Trikona house simultaneously in the chart. When strong, these planets will bring exceptional results to the individual. There are six ascendants that this applies to:

CANCER AND LEO: Mars is the Yokakaraka planet as it owns the 5th and 10th house for Cancer, the 4th and 9th for Leo.

CAPRICORN AND AQUARIUS: Venus is the Yokaraka planet, as it owns the 5th and 10th house for Capricorn, the 4th and the 9th for Aquarius.
