KEY ELEMENTS TO FINDING WEAKNESS IN A CHART.

COMBUSTION: Whenever a planet comes very near to the Sun, it looses its strength. This is called combustion. If planets suffer from combustion, they fail to protect their general significations along with the significations of the houses ruled by them due to the influence caused by the transiting malefic planets. If such a planet is determined weak on other accounts as well, then the significations ruled by them may never take place; they only remain as potential that never can be realized. The planets are said to be combust when they are within a certain range of degrees on either side of the Sun as shown below:

PLANETS OCCUPYING DUSTHANA HOUSES: Whenever planets occupy the sixth, eighth, or the twelfth house, either in a natal chart or as a planet in transit, the planets suffer weakness and will not promote their own significations. If such a planet falls in its own sign or in its sign of exhaltation, then the planet will have less difficulties and may overcome many of the obstacles that occur when the planet is in the Dusthana house.

One must understand clearly what occurs when a planet is deposited in the Dusthana house. A benefic planet will lose its benefic significations and become weak. Just how weak is to be determined on the other points regarding the planets strengths and weaknesses. A malefic planet in the dusthana house can gain additional strength to cause harm. In other words the negative energy of such a planet actually can gain more strength and cause more harm, not to itself, or its own significations, but to other planets and houses that it aspects.

DEBILITATION: Planets are considered to be in the state of debilitation and become weak if they are occupying a particular sign that is unfavourable. These signs are always opposite from the signs that they experience exhaltation in. Aside from owning their own signs, all planets have another sign that they excel in (exhaltation sign). The opposite sign of the exhalted placement is the sign that the planets suffer weakness in - this is the debilitation sign.

When debilitation occurs, the planet will fail to protect or promote the general significations ruled by it and therefore are rendered weak. There can be deterioration in their ruling sub-periods. The debilitation signs of the various planets are as follows:

INFANCY AND OLD AGE: There are 30 degrees in a sign. Whenever a planet in a particular sign is at 0 degrees to 5 degrees, then the planet suffers from the state of infancy and becomes weak. The planet will be incapable of promoting or protecting its own significations as well as the house it rules. Of course, the planet that is at 4 degrees rather than at 1 degree loses only approximately 20 per cent of its strength and is still determined to be quite strong if other significations and factors of that planet are positive.

Whenever a planet in a particular sign is at 25 degrees to 30 degrees it is said to in the state of old age. A planet in this state suffers weakness and is also considered to be weak and incapable of fully promoting or protecting its own significations and those of the houses it rules. Of course, the planet that is at 26 degrees is not as weak than the planet at 29 degrees. It suffers only weakness at approximately 20 per cent while the planet at 29 degrees suffers 80 per cent weakness.
